Muppet Phantom of the Opera!

Clearly Miss Piggy would be Christine (she did start as a chorus girl in The Muppet Show, after all).

That might leave Spamela Hamderson as Carlotta.

Kermit (maybe with a moustache) would then have to be Raoul.

Gonzo as the Phantom seems like a shoo-in; none of the others are quite weird enough to pull it off. Besides, I'd just love to see him in mask singing "Why So Silent" and "Point of No Return"!

Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem (plus Rowlf) would of course be the orchestra.

The chickens could be the ballet dancers, led by Camilla as Madame Giry (who is sympathetic to the Phantom).

Statler & Waldorf could easily be the new owners of the theater--they'd be spending most of their time in the balcony complaining, which they're already good at.

Meg could be played by Prarie Dawn, moving out of Sesame Street for her first big break on Broadway!

Rizzo the Rat as Joseph the Ratcatcher would be hilariously ironic.

I think that covers all the major characters from Phantom. Fozzie still needs a role, though. Maybe a new comic relief character, or perhaps the former owner of the theater, although that's a rather minor part.

Alternatively, Kermit and Fozzie could be the new owners of the theater, with Statler and Waldorf as themselves.

On second thought, maybe Miss Piggy should be Carlotta. Miss Piggy always plays the leading lady, but then again Carlotta is also the sort of control-freak diva who always gets to play the leading lady, so Piggy would be perfect for her.

That leaves Raoul and Christine open--but as the hero and heroine, they should probably be played by humans instead of puppets.

There we go. Humans for Raoul (Orlando Bloom?) and Christine. Kermit and Fozzie and the new theater owners. Gonzo as the Phantom. Piggy as Carlotta, Prarie Dawn as Meg. Camilla as Madame Giry, with a ballet of chickens and a chorus of penguins (or maybe the other way around), and the Electric Mayhem for the orchestra. Rizzo as the ratcatcher; Statler & Waldorf as themselves.

Next big Muppet movie. What do you think?

I like it, although I will say that quite often Gonzo and Rizzo go together in muppet movies, like narrators or just their own made up characters. Also I'm not sure that Gonzo would work for the more malicious nature of the phantom. I also seem to think that we should fit Sam the Eagle in there someplace, although I'm not sure where. The original owner, perhaps?

I would totally watch it though, no matter who played what parts :)

Gonzo would be more of a comically evil character, wearing a mask to cover his hideous nose. (The running gag would be that he wears a half-mask which doesn't actually cover his nose at all.)

I suppose Rizzo could be the Phantom's comical sidekick. Beau the janitor would work fine as the ratcatcher instead.

Sam the Eagle would work well as the original owner--I can easily hear him saying "This place is so weird. I'm getting out of here!" as he hands the keys over to Kermit and Fozzie.

Hazel also points out that Sam's voice and attitude would work well for the auctioneer in the introduction.

Fozzie would obviously narrate the story as Gaston Leroux, just as Gonzo did as Charles Dickens in The Muppet Christmas Carol.
